Cobalt as a Matrix in Diamond Impregnated Tools for Stone Sawing Applications by Janusz Konstanty

The Second Edition of this book covers work carried out on cobalt-base and cobalt-containing materials used as a matrix in diamond impregnated segments. In this work, the author has placed emphasis on developing a scientific understanding of the multi-way relationship between powder properties, material composition, manufacturing conditions, microstructure, properties evaluated in the laboratory or in the field and application conditions as well as developing the means of predicting matrix behaviour in use.

The first part of the book deals with chip formation phenomena in stone sawing operations combined with a comprehenisve analytical look at the problem. Later chapers deal with tool fabrication technologies, cobalt powders and their market substitutes; powder production routes; engineeringing microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties; and field behavious of cobalt and cobalt containing matrix materials. Finally the author identifies further areas for research.

Metal Cutting By Paul K. Wright and E M Trent

Fourth edition of this book originally published in 2000, presents a comprehensive treatment of the subject that focuses on the features of the behaviour of tool and work materials that influence the efficiency of metal cutting operations.

It has been expanded and revised to include significant changes and additions to metal cutting theory, and to cover developments in tool materials and industrial practice. In particular, improvements in the understanding of the generation of heat and distribution of temperature in the cutting tool are described; a discussion of the structure, properties, and performance of newly developed ceramic tool materials and tool coatings is presented; new information of the machinability of alloys is given; and the introduction of calcium deoxidized steels and their improved machinability are assessed. Additionally, a material selection and design-based approach is expanded upon to improve industrial relevance.

Metal Cutting provides invaluable information for those engaged in machining, toolmaking, and related engineering activities, and it serves as a useful introduction to the subject for students of metallurgy and engineering.

Machining with Abrasives by Mark J. Jackson and J. Paulo Davim

Abrasive machining is one of the most important processes used in manufacturing engineering. It is key to removing unwanted material, as well as to obtain the desired geometry and surface quality in manufacturing. "Machining with Abrasives" discusses the fundamentals and advances in the abrasive machining processes, and provides a complete overview of newly-developing areas in the field. Abrasive machining processes where material is removed from a work piece using a multitude of hard angular abrasive particles or grains which may or may not be bonded to form a tool are discussed at length.
