The Second Edition of this book covers work carried out on cobalt-base and cobalt-containing materials used as a matrix in diamond impregnated segments. In this work, the author has placed emphasis on developing a scientific understanding of the multi-way relationship between powder properties, material composition, manufacturing conditions, microstructure, properties evaluated in the laboratory or in the field and application conditions as well as developing the means of predicting matrix behaviour in use.
The first part of the book deals with chip formation phenomena in stone sawing operations combined with a comprehenisve analytical look at the problem. Later chapers deal with tool fabrication technologies, cobalt powders and their market substitutes; powder production routes; engineeringing microstructure, mechanical and tribological properties; and field behavious of cobalt and cobalt containing matrix materials. Finally the author identifies further areas for research.

Abrasive machining is one of the most important processes used in manufacturing engineering. It is key to removing unwanted material, as well as to obtain the desired geometry and surface quality in manufacturing. "Machining with Abrasives" discusses the fundamentals and advances in the abrasive machining processes, and provides a complete overview of newly-developing areas in the field. Abrasive machining processes where material is removed from a work piece using a multitude of hard angular abrasive particles or grains which may or may not be bonded to form a tool are discussed at length. A review of the science and technology of carbon and its allotropes: graphite, diamond and the fullerenes. This field has expanded dramatically over the last three decades stimulated by the discovery of carbon fibers, low-pressure diamond, and the fullerenes. These carbon materials differ greatly in structure and properties and are also produced by different segments of the industry for a large range of applications. This volume is a modern account of both the traditional and newer forms of carbon, the naturally occurring and the man-made and is aimed at all industry users of carbon including those in the aerospace, automotive, semiconductors, optics and electronics sectors.
